Olive, as my family affectionately named her, has been a part of our family since 1996. I was told that she is one of the very first ones that was released to the government. I am not sure about that, but that might explain the 1950 rather than 1951…
She went through a complete body restoration (completely sandblasted, and metal treated before primer) with any rust cut out, and patched with new metal and leaded in. We did not touch the engine or transmission, because it did not smoke or use any oil, it does drip (it’s an army truck J). We had the radiator serviced, and installed a new water pump, and hoses and belts. It shifts great. It was owned by a local city after its military service, and was used as a civil defense truck, spending most of its life indoors. I bought the truck because it was so free of rust in the first place. I used as many new old stock parts as I could, new tailgate, rear fenders, door shells, windshield and frame, new bumper and grill. The truck has a brand new steering wheel, door and window rubber, and all new canvas. It has an entirely new wiring harness and brake lines. The gas tank was completely “renued”.
It has never spent a night outside.
It is stored in a heated workshop, and covered. Other than an occasional parade, or drive around the yard, she has not been driven more than 500 miles since she was restored. The numbers on the hood are authentic, new dash data plates, the bumper numbers are ones that my friend and 40 year+ body man had on his truck that he used when he was stationed in Germany. The paint is correctly flattened Imron, I chose antique white for the lettering and stencil work.
It has never had water on it since its restoration. The only reason I am selling her, is that I have lost interest and I hope that someone else can enjoy her.
