Most likely by third party companies when the truck was new. I’ve seen paperwork for a slightly newer C series truck that the dealer had converted by a local company for the buyer. That one used 1/2 ton WWII military axles. I’ve seen a few B series that looked like they were similar period conversions using 1/2 ton WWII running gear. None of them had the original paperwork, but the setup looked a lot like the one on the C series that had paperwork documenting the conversion.

The other options I’ve seen are home made conversions that often involved the B series 2wd body being mounted on a WWII military chassis. Mostly the 1/2 ton. Or sometimes I see a similar conversion that was done later like on a Some random full size 4wd chassis. Most of those were obviously done in the last 30 years or so.

Those are the guesses I have without seeing the pictures. Email what you have and I’ll see if I can say more.
