Years ago I found the article (see link) that showed how to remove the ethanol from gasoline. The article also discussed the problems caused by alcohol in the fuel. Removing the ethanol lowers the octane of premium fuel to be closer to the octane rating of regular, but the user only needed regular for his use. So, in the end, he had what he needed, and other users who need only regular don't need to do anything extra. For my sport bike, which needs premium, I start with premium but, at the end, backfill with 1.5 quarts of 112 octane race fuel and one ounce per gallon of fuel system cleaner / fuel stabilizer. As an experiment, I repeated the process several times to see if I could remove more alcohol. I found that three iterations were needed to remove all the alcohol, or at least for the fuels available in my area. For my separation setup, I use a translucent five-gallon container, with a clear hose and ball valve that is at the bottom, when the container is inverted. There are more details, but if anyone is interested in doing this, they can contact me, and I will be happy to share. Before doing this, I had to rebuild the carburetors every 18 months. But now, I've had no problems.
