When I rewired my WDX to 12 volt I had to ground the lamp receptacle to the frame. The positive metal to metal connection wouldn't provide the ground I needed. Of course I was reassembling my truck after painting and your truck is original ]covet :)]. Still, over the years perfectly functioning original grounding situations might become less effective (it's only been 60+ years) since original assembly.
