Not to proud to admit a screw up. My WC 1/2 ton 4.30 to 4.10 swap has hit a snag. The rear 4.10 third member is in in and all buttoned up. The front 4.10 third member is another story. I had bought a good used 4.10 ring and pinion along with what I thought was a 4.10 case on e-bay a of couple year ago. I had a shop swap out the side gears on the 4.10 case to match the Rezeppa joints on the WC and mount the case in a carrier housing I had. Well, I installed it in the axle housing the other day. No problems, slid right in and I bolted it up. Put the short side axle shaft in, spindle, brake housing and drum. Went to put the selectro hubs on and big problem. The holes are off because the axle shaft is not centered in the spindle. Looks like I have the wrong case for the ring and pinion ratio I have. Zentmeyer’s interchange booklet talks about just this problem. I do have a complete 4.10 third member that has a chewed up pinion in it. I will have to have the shop swap out the side gears, ring and pinion and install those components into the trashed ring and pinion 4.10 third member. Oh well, you live and learn. Looks like it will take about a month or so to have it done. In the meantime, I have reinstalled the drums minus the front axle drive shafts. I will install a front differential cover on the rear of the axle housing to keep out dust and debris while I drive it around. Have to drive the old WC any way I can. I get withdrawals not driving it after a few days. LOL.
