If the roof structure is there, why not replace it with an original style roof. I did and I have absolutely no issues. I simply put spacers on the ribs then a sheet of 1/4” plywood. On the plywood was glued a thin sheet of closed cell foam then covered that with vinyl roof material and installed the lock ring around the edge. The lock ring was available from VPW. I did all the work with the spacers and plywood install. I actually pop riveted the plywood in as the original tabs were mostly gone. I was able to use a lot of the screw holes that were in the chanel from the metal roof I removed. I had a shop install the foam, vinyl and lock ring.
The roof has been on for 16 years and is just fine. It has never leaked or rattled in the wind.
