Check out the took used to tighten the bottom bracket bearings on bicycles. The tools looks like a spanner (open-end wrench) with one finger removed and a "tooth" on the end of the remaining finger.
You may be able to get a cheap bike tool at walmart or kmart that could be modified.
BTW you can sometimes wiggle the switch (from the back side) enough to loosen the ring so you can spin it off.
