Hi Dan,
You are correct about the block, the Poly weighs 85 lbs more than the 'LA'.
Are you sure about the Poly head bolting onto an 'LA'? I never heard that. I am running an 'LA' double roller timing chain, chain cover, (timing marks are on the wrong side because the 'LA' water pump is reversed from the Poly). The cranks can interchange with some work, BUT the cams wont's because the valve timing (valve sequence) is totally different. I ordered an 'LA' High Performance oil pump, it turned out to be a STOCK Poly pump : )
The 'LA' windage tray will also work with a little modification, as will the 'LA' elctronic distributor. In addition I wouldn't even try to put the Poly heads on an 'LA', the Poly has a forged crank and is just built more Dodge Tough! (that 85 lbs again!) That's not a knock against the 'LA', the Poly is just that much better, but was too expensive for Dodge to build in those days of low sales.
