251 TEMP SENDER CHARACTERISTICS

I have done a 318 repower on my WM-300. The 318 takes a 1/8 inch pipe thread temp sender. The 251 engine takes a 3/8 inch pipe thread temp sender. Does anyone know if a standard 318 temp sender will match with the WM-300 temp gauge and give proper readings ?
