STU H, You've probably already looked at the "Model Year Detail" page on the homepage of this website. That's a pretty good breakdown for the differences in the "Flat-Fender" (WDX thru WM300) PW's. Visually at a quick glance, they are hard to tell apart. The 3 series of bed styles breaks them down into obvious age ranges: Series 1 beds starting w/ '47 WDX's have 4 stake pockets per side, and inward sloped top bed side rails. Series 2 beds starting with '51 B3-PW's have 3 pockets per side and the same inward sloped bed side rails. Series 3 beds starting with ??? (late '50's I think) have 3 pockets per side and flat topped bed side rails. Another visual turning point was the pre-'51/post-'51 arrangement of the gauge cluster(s) in the dash. The most assured way to tell is to cross reference the serial number (from the driver's doorpost plate, OR from its stamped location on the frame; usually, but not always, on the driver's side front above the axle. You can cross-reference the number with the listing on this website to find the year and production location.
As far as the more conventional body style PW's known as Power Giants, the best place to look is Eric B.'s website "My Power Giant Power Wagon Page" obtainable from the link in any of his postings on this Forum. He's got photos which show the grille & body changes over the years.
I'm not sure where to go for model year differentiation for M-37's, but Kurt Hirte on this Forum probably knows.
Finally, the pre-WDX (pre'45) Military Dodges include the WC 1/2 ton series (WC-1 thru WC-43 (open & closed cab with a variety of rear body configurations)) along with some other military designated series'.
There's no one source that can answer all your questions at once and correctly. There's a "PW learning curve" that can be worked through with time spent looking a the postings and photos on this website. Just looking at the Photo-Classifieds and the personal websites of the Forum readers helps out. Good Luck, Bruce
