Here's a question for you guys.....I have a 318 poly & an np435 with pto. I'm building a 47 flat fender & the 230 is way too gutless. It runs perfectly & the truck will climb a tree but on the highway, realistically it's 40(if that) & slowing to 20 on the hills.
Now if I were to want a 251 in there I'd look for a good WM300 to restore rather than buthcher the 47. As for the 318, it just seems ludacrist to buy a piece of history & then re engineer it. Why not do it to a 77 Dodge truck or something not so rare?
This brings me to my question....who can I send this 230 to that will send it back to me with a minimum of 150HP? I don't want to to hunt for dual carbs & parts myself, I just need to know who specializes in these old flatheads? Is it possible to get a decent amount of HP out of this engine while keeping the Ball & Ball carb & the stock appearance?
I want to put my 900x16's on this truck but if it doesn't have enough power now, It'll be much worse after. Anyone have any sugestions?
