Make sure you use a lubricant that is non sulfur based because the sulfur is mildly corrosive to yellow metals. It is to be avoided because of the brass gear in the winch. You will have to investigate which GL dosen't have the sulfur. I think GL4 but I could be wrong. It's been years since I bought my winch lube.
