It is possible. However, there is no sediment in the bottom of the block. I had one truck where I had to pull the drain cock and stick a wire in the block to get it to drain, it was so full of sediment. This one drains fast and clean.

I have the head back on. There was a lot of carbon buildup. Some of the head bolts were just dry rust on their shanks. Most were coated with what appeared to be a thick layer of carbon. There were two that were washed perfectly clean and wet. These two obviously were being continuously rinsed by coolant.

Now that I have the hood, fenders, and all the engine accessories removed, it is very tempting to install a new water pump and thermostat. Now would be the perfect time to do it. However, if I did, and the problem disappeared, I would never know what fixed it.
