Clint: Can you see the coolant level going down at all over time?
I'd think about pressure testing the radiator and engine (without taking them out)
I'm suspicious of a leaking freeze plug you can't easily see. A lot of engine re-builders throw a block of bars leak in the engine just to prevent any minor leaks...

Regarding the overheating. Most of us can't test how well a radiator does it's job. I tried using IR thermometers etc, but when I pulled the radiator and had it professionally refurbished, (and all the stop leak removed from the tubes...) it made a world of difference. It does get hot in Maryland, and even on the hottest of hot days when I am pushing the truck the temp never goes above the t-stat temp. As you know, these rucks were designed to run stationary implements, so they don't count on air blasting in at 40 MPH to cool them. They are designed to produce horse power in the desert while standing still.

So.... that's my story and I'm sticking with it. It looks like Doc Langford is dragging me to Iowa this year to watch the corn grow and check out the VPW rally. Hope to see you soon.

Wayne
