Couple gearbox questions

First, is there a trick to removing gearshift knobs without destroying them?

Second.. The 3/4 Ton handbrake & transfer case levers are mounted on a plate that is held to the gearbox with three bolts. Now, these three bolts have standoffs (short pieces of pipe) that holds the spacing between the gearbox and the plate. Oddly, one is longer than the other two. And, I didn't make a note of which bolt the long one goes on. Does anyone know, offhand, how these standoffs go? I'm kinda' stumped on this one. Haven't been able to find a picture either.
