Mounted on the driver side rear door jamb, but that sometimes goes missing. If it is a 1971 the serial number (what would be used as a modern VIN) is also stamped into the frame on the passenger side facing the tire between the front cab mount and the front of the frame. Most are around the front axle. The number on the frame is often invisible due to years of rust, dirt, and paint until the frame is cleaned with a wire wheel in a drill or the like. Don’t give up on finding it until the whole area between the front cab mount and the front of the frame are clean to bare metal.

What model truck are you working on? W100, W200, W300, W300M, W500?

Eric
