Thanks for the observations. They will end up in the archives for someone who is doing the same thing someday to benefit from. I didn't know that about the holes, since my truck came with an abortion of a bed and I built a flat bed for it. The engineers must have planned on those trucks still going long after the engineers were gone. New trucks don't have provisions for those repairs. Either throw the part away and get a whole new assembly or throw the truck away and get a new truck.
