No mention of an alternator. I do see an alternator listed as a notable change for 1958 on this website, but I don’t know where that data came from. There is always a chance that there was a part introduced with just a sales bulletin or the like, but if that happened in late 1958 you’d expect it to be in all the books in 1959. I can’t find any mention of an alternator until 1961 so it seems pretty unlikely they’d be used in 1958.

Your choice to go with a generator seems like a good one.
