No. That works with resistors and light bulbs, but not with electric motors.
Once upon a time, -- well, back in the 60's -- as an apprentice electrician we went down to the lake shore behind an old tannery to check out the fire pump motor. It was a three phase 50 hp. 600 volt motor in a 8' x 8' shack. The lighting in the shack was 5 pigtail sockets in series connected across two legs of the 600 volts. It works , saves buying a small 600 to 120 volt transformer. JJB.
