1. The tranny is a noisy box of rattily gears, the older it gets the more parts get worn, and the warmer it gets the more things rattle and vibrate. If you have a PTO with a worn idler shaft and gear, that adds to the noise. You can rebuild it, and that will help, but you’ll still have vibration and all that vibration moves up the shift lever, causing it to rattle, making it all sound horrible. The shift’s lever half-moons are between slots in the transmission’s shift rails and usually rides on the front wall of the slot picking up all vibration, transferring that to a rattily noise. After the tranny warms and the rattling begins, get your speed up to about 40mph, and if you take the shift lever while in 4th gear and gently push it forward, you’ll push the lever into air space, when that happens, the tranny should go silent, no more vibration noise. I also use carpet pad and carpet in the floor to help block out noise.

On my tranny, I made a strap that goes around the shift tower and has a lever. Once things are warm, I gently tap the lever, and that holds the shift lever in air space and thing go quiet. All you can hear is the purr of the engine, 6 blade fan, and hum of the tires, a much pleasant ride. You guys can laugh which I don’t care, I enjoy my ride without ear plugs! Go to the temp section at the bottom of my site for a pic of the level.

2. Like others have said, UJ's may be and issue check for play and Autozone has the best UJ’s made in Japan for the best price. They fit tight with no play, check my site for number under the propeller shafts & UJ’s.

3. Look at you cab tranny floor cover that it is not laying on the transmission cover, raise the cab if it is. This causes noise to transfer into the cab.
