Agree 100 per cent. Mechanical controls rarely fail and if they do, can always be 'made' to work. My old GMC pickup had a manual selector shaft and knob on the heater duct. Flip it one way for 'defrost'...other way for 'heat'...and any combination in between. Foolproof!
