On the '61-'68 WM300s, the rear 'base angle' (or the longitudinal piece of steel that supports the back of the gearbox and the back of the main shaft bearing carrier) is a piece of flat stock rather than a heavy piece of angle iron. They changed it because the radiator for the 251 engine is much further forward and hits the regular base angle. This later base angle has almost no strength against the pull of the winch, which is why they are usually bent, like this one.
