I think the captcha is a small price to pay and not a pain at all when you consider the alternative. Forums where you have to register and login each visit are more of a pain than a captcha, especially when they time out after X number of minutes of inactivity.
Then, most of those types of forums group threads together by subject which makes it hard to browse through. Here, one can quickly scroll through the threads and immediately see how many people are posting in a particular thread and who they are. I tend to avoid grouped threads that pertain to trucks, services, etc. that I may have no interest in. Here, I can quickly see and check out posts that look interesting even though the initial thread subject may not interest me.
Gordon Maney and I had this discussion at length way back when he was thinking about starting the Power Wagon Advertiser Forum. He didn't agree with my thinking, but he asked for an honest opinion and that is what I gave.
I do the same as Tom. Always load new code and keep moving.
