The sender MUST have 2 terminals! The gauge has 2 terminals that connect directly to the sender. The sender is a voltage divider. A voltage divider circuit has three wires connected to it. The two terminal fuel sender uses the the chassis ground as the third conductor which connects to the wiper of the sender. Early military Dodges used this same system.
