Starter push lever question..

This is another one that's been cropping up. Sometimes you go to start the truck and you can't push the starter lever. You have to bang/kick it a bit to free it up. Is this typical? I'd think not, but maybe. What do people do to improve this? 'Cause its tough to see what's going on between the cab & the motor.
