I applaud your desire to keep it stock!
As others have said bigger tires are probably the best way to go for a little extra road speed, and honestly they look great, but without a huge amount of modifications or a trailer you're not going to get 60-70 mph out of one of these.
It might be worth looking into a later model transmission that has synchros, while double-clutching is an interesting skill IMO for enjoyment of the truck it's just added stress. Just keep the original in case someone wants to go back to stock but it shouldn't require much modification to update.
There are some OD boxes people have bolted in, but not sure how easy one will be to find.
