I have never owned a civilian PW, but do own and have owned 3 different 1941 WC 1/2 ton closed cab trucks.
Similar, earlier than your truck, and they were a tad lighter in frame and running gear.
But the stock 41 WC have 4:89 gears.
With 9:00-16 tires and all the rest stock (230 engine/stock 4 speed etc)
I can and do regularly drive this in the 50 mph range with no issue.
I loose speed on hills as the engine is like what 80 hp?
All those trucks I owned I always wanted to repower, but I was also lucky each time and found rust free trucks too.
In the end the great condition of the truck convinced me to leave stock. No re-power.
Glad I did. I believe resale (at least for my military) remains good where re-poweringbit might have lessened its value
