I've seen that done and it did work. I've also seen guys heat the part in sand, weld and put insulating blankets over it to bring it down slow. The older guys have forgot more than I'll ever know and I always like to learn what they have done and how it was accomplished. Todays throw away society doesn't care about repairs, it's replace anymore.
