It was just a marketing gimmick. Absolutely no difference than a plain head other than the lightning bolts and the Spitfire name on the head. They are for the longer 25” block motors though. I have one installed on my IND-7(236) block. It is out of a 1941 Chrysler with the 241 Spitfire motor. The bore on the 241 is 3&3/8” vs the 3&7/16” bore of the 236. So by installing this head on the 236 I increased the compression ratio.
For those folks that have a 23” block motor and want to increase their compression ratio without having to shave their existing head do the following. Look for a 1957-59 Plymouth head. The casting number on it is 1676337. The compression ratio of this head is 8.0-1. You will have to drill out and re-tap the temp gauge fitting on this head as by then CC was using an electric type temp sending unit. I installed one on my 230 and you could feel the motor had more pull than with the old head. CC redisgned the combustion chamber on this head to develop the higher CR.
