I drive quite a bit on the highway and most people around here don't even like using the cruise control!! I constantly fight being passed and then repassed. I understand the appeal to the government of fleet cars because they can easier regulate the pollution control and fuel economy. In cities the uber model may work but in a smaller midwest city people just don't have the money for ride sharing. I watch the swap shop and craigslist and a large percentage of the vehicles around here have 150K plus mileage on them and are better than 10 years old. Cars are more durable than ever (if not as maintenance friendly) and even though the new cost is ridiculous you can get a high milage but reliable car for next to nothing and the cost of ownership becomes very low. Fleet cars will be new and maintanence will be done by shops and therefore the cost will reflect that.

Also like a power wagon trucks around here are used on the farm and on construction sites. Self driving vehicles will never be optimized for this. I doubt Google or Apple even realize people actually drive thier trucks off road every day!! I say more like 50 years than 20 before the self driving cars take over.
