Would have to be the acetone that was bad. Does it smell and burn like acetone? Acetone will mix in any proportion with water or with any sort of oil, so even if the ATF had water in it, it should still have totally mixed. Was the acetone in a re-used can that wasn't properly labeled so maybe it was something else, like alcohol?
