4.10 gears

Hi,
I'm usually at the Big E, but nobody replied to this one. Somebody was talking about putting 4.10's from 30's-40's trucks into the diff's and it is supposed to work, but they say there is some trick involved? Anybody done this conversion? Is the ring set the same size?
