Nothing like trying to buy a truck from a dealer. What a wonderful experience.
Story:
I was excited about a 2001 quad cab 3500 with 8000 miles on it for a great price. When I got a BS answer as to why the vehicle was being sold after only 8000 miles, my caution antenna went up. I got NO info from the sales staff or manager as to the problems with the truck, service records, when the truck was first sold(for warranty info), if they were the original sellers,....
I took it to a body shop.
It has been in an accident and required more than body work to make it drivable.
Of course, the sales staff claims to know nothing about this. They did not know where it was fixed. Their CARFAX report does not show an accident.
CARFAX IS A JOKE!!! Not all states or police departments report to Carfax. Carfax's initial info leads you to believe that there is are history records and in order to get that info, you must pay for it. This info came back as WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TITLED. As if this was really important info that I needed.
Questions:
Is a dealer required to inform a buyer about accident damage on a truck that they are trying to sell, or the maintanance records(if the dealer did the work)??
Is there another way to find out who owned the truck, who worked on the truck, accident info. I have a VIN #.
The body shop personnel figured out the accident senerio like forensic scientists.
They feel that the truck is safe since all the damaged parts appeared to have been replaced. I have over 75 miles of driving this truck and it drove like a dream.

I asked for the obvious to be fixed and for them to throw in an extended Bumper to Bumper warranty, and then I would buy it. They said NO. Do the 2002's have a longer warranty?
Does anyone know the legal rights of a buyer and the legal obligations of the dealers in N.J.
Sorry for the long post.
You can reply directly to me to save forum space.
Thank you, Mark
