Find your self an old FRAZER. They are built stronger than tanks and will rip through any soil, roots, rocks etc. with the right tines.
I just finished renovating one and it is a beast. If you cannot find one, a Troy-Built is a decent substitute. The Frazers are also handy for pulling large objects (non-powered wheeled vehicles for example)around the place.
