Well done in finding that... It's going to be so rare that I don't know anyone who will have info, though I did see someone post something (was it here or on the mil-veh list?) about how to get info on US Navy vehicles from their census number. It would have been nicer with an original T214 engine in it but who's complaining.

Just one point about the spare wheel carrier - check the mounting bolt holes to see if they were ever used. I have seen mention of that fact that late Commands and Carryalls issued for admin use within the continental US were issued without spare wheel or carrier, basically because you could get in and out more easily and how far from the garage would you be in a Navy yard ?

It might have captive nuts for fitting the toolrack that are unused too, or possibly even a plain tailgate lid. In general I'd expect it to be just like an army one apart from paint and markings, and most of the equipment differences would be standard stuff that WASN'T fitted, like spare carrier, pioneer rack, jerry can carriers, etc.

So give it a good look over and don't start drilling holes to re-fit 'missing' equipment.

Gordon
