the pivot is a bushing and they can get worn. its not unsafe it just creates some slop. the other connections usually need cleaning and adjusting every 50 years. if the connections are clean enough then just adjust and grease. pull cotter pins, tighten the giant plug in the end until it stops, then back off to nearest hole for cotter pin installation. these steering systems are very tough. I have never seen one "fail" I have seen things get loose/worn out but never anything acutally broken. its not a jeep or a Toyota. ;/)
