I have a frame that at one time someone had welded a military windshield bracket to the top 1/2 of a WDX frame, and made use of the lower screws to be able to still separate the 1/2's. the frame was done sloppily and is pretty beat now but done neatly I dont see a problem with doing one that way. I am assuming the bolt spacing is the same?
