without seeing it cant venture an opinion but I would side with experience of what he is saying. "people run them". I think in 40 years he would have heard a ton of sotries about pitted seal areas leaking if they really did. I have installed zillion axle seals and yokes on pitted surfaces and had no leakage. I have seen the results having serviced fleets in the past and checked the work many miles down the road.
