Need Help With 318 Water Pump

I picked up a 1957 W-100 on the way to the VT rally. Filed the points and the replacement 318 poly started right up with a fresh battery. Water pump was shot, noisy bearings and leaked like crazy. Got a new water pump. It's the shiny one! The original has a 3/4" inlet or outlet? pipe. I haven't been able to remove the pipe. Even if I could, the new pump takes a 1" pipe. It came with a threaded adapter. Question is can I mate the 3/4 rubber hose to the coupler? Do I need some other solution? Maybe a different coupler that ends with 3/4 pipe?
