I don't know if the block is already tapped or not (the block is at the machine shop), but if needed, I imagine I could drill and tap it.

So it's good to hear that the thrust flange does a decent job of slinging the oil to keep it from leaking out the back. A little light seepage is ok. I just don't want anything major that would leave significant puddles on the floor or wet my clutch disk.

Someone else suggested to me that the rough area might not be exactly where the seal contacts the shaft, so I may do a test fit to see.

I talked to the machinist at lunch time today, and he said he had already verified that the welding shop does not have a grinding wheel narrow enough to grind that area. He also said that there aren't any other shops to do that kind of work in this area, which is hard to believe, considering how large the Dallas-Fort Worth area is.
