All the plants in the Corpus area max refining capacity is around 800,000 Barrels crude a day, or about 4% of the Nations estimated max capacity of 18,617,000. If it were to have gone East 200 miles and hit the Houston area and shut down Texas City, Deere Park, LaPorte, Baytown over to Beaumont, that might affect up to 3,850,000 barrels/day or about 20% of National capacity.
The price shouldn’t be affected, in fact I just fueled up my truck this evening, and the station dropped the price $.10 since the last time I was there to $2.07. Summer travel is over reducing the demand, and there are always plants closing for major maintenance projects that take several weeks to months, and other plants gear-up for that loss of product.
