I have driven several vehicles with Dot 5 fluid, mostly surplus military 6x6's. I really like it, but it is not without it's issues.

My first deuce with it came without an airpack and all the lines going to it open to the atmosphere. After installing the new airpack and bled out the lines, there was no corrosion or issues with the fluid. For vehicles that sit in storage for a long time without being used, there are definite advantages to Dot 5.

On the other hand, it does get air trapped in it rather easily that can be tough to get out. Had another truck with Dot 5 that had air in the fluid I did not know about or even suspect because it had a good, solid pedal. Drove it on a hot summer day with temps in the mid-90s and after 50 or so miles the fluid expanded, causing the brakes to drag.
