Since you do not tell us if you are using one 12 volt battery, or two, we can't tell you the answer.
If one, do it the way Tom suggests.
If two, put the live ones in series, and use the jumper cables as if there were a live 24 volt battery and a dead 24 volt battery. + to + and - to -.
