Ok, lets work on the first question. What -you- are calling the mold..

The grey thing in the picture is the plug, the orange thing is the mold. The mold is used to make multiple parts that are like the plug.

Most times people build or in some way create a "plug". This is a.. err. This is the same as the part you want made from fiberglass in the end. People make plus because they are easy for people to make. Its just a really detailed carving of your finished part.

Then, using your plug, you wax it up and cover it in fiberglass making a mold. The mold will be the inverse, or negative of the finished fiberglass part. Once your mold is finished, wax it up and pull out a fiberglass part.

Simple & one off parts sometimes you skip the "plug" step and just create a negative mold by hand. This is fast but typically only successful if the guy doing it is experienced.

I had a guy like this working for me. I wanted a fiberglass part, sketched what I was looking for and headed out for a cheeseburger. I came back from lunch and he handed me a finished part. I was flabbergasted. He'd found the sketch, whipped up a on-off mold the pulled a part from it before I could finish lunch.

Most people can't do this.

Anyway, mold or plug? And I still can't visualize what you are wanting to build.

Are there any boat builders in your area? typically they are so money hungry they will take on most any job and they are the best at composite work.
