I've had a Loc Rite differential in my '66 F350 with 428 for at least 20 years. Some of the things you mention are true, but have never raised an issue. I have plowed snow with the truck since before when it had the factory open differential. I have plowed many, many times in two wheel drive because the traction is so great.
