Couple of times when I've been chasing/fixing electrical, enough time goes by that the needle valve on the carb gets stuck and won't let fuel in. Got to be a little careful with fuel around the top of the engine ( i.e., if you crank it with an open line to test for fuel delivery).
Sorry to hear you got a jolt! I hate that feeling. Bought a sparker for my traveling kit that I put between the plug and the wire to do a test - pretty blue spark that's easy to see. I wouldn't dare let my wife test spark on me - she'd be putting Ajax on my hands and taping the wires on with friction tape.
