Tim,
Get it wrapped with a paint job that makes it look old school, or less shiny, some rust or warn paint, you will always have the pristine truck under the plastic wrap.
Build a plywood insert for the bed, but get some soft material to retard any paint from being damaged.
And ENJOY the truck, You did a great job on it with help from all your Girls that will visit you for the next 50 years, and love seeing the old girl (I say that because they will always remember what you empowered in them)
