This is exactly what this guy is doing. Tells me $10k on the phone. I grab cash and my trailer and drive 4 hours to see the truck. Get there and he's on the fence about selling. Says he may give it to his son. Starts telling me how there are eBay trucks like his selling for more. Says he's not taking $10k for it. I look it over. It' has tons of rot and doesn't run. Frame is rusty, panels have thick pitting rust, etc. Generally it's a mess. It's probably worth $10k but not a penny more and I still would have to think about handing over that much for it. He has registrations from another name but has no paperwork in his name. No title, no history. Truck needs everything. The guy is nuts. Fishing is an understatement. Can you tell I wasn't too happy with him?!
