pvc tubing size ?

I am connecting my PVC. I found the tubing, elbows, crankcase fitting at a swap meet. When i went to actually install it, the elbows were for 1/2 in flared tubing and the tube was 7/16. I have looked all over for 7/17 elbows like the one in the picture. I read some older posts about steel being hard to work with at that size so copper was a choice. What was originally used? and can I get the 7/16 elbows?
