start in 4wd from dead stops that way you won t break axles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the axle breakage thing is a topic all by itself

i pulled a trailer behind my 67 with massive loads on both the trailer and truck and never broke an axle but i was offroad and in 4wd most of the time but i did have a stretch of payment on the last leg of those runs, can t remember if i did it in 2wd or 4wd tho

as vaughn says wheel bearing adjustment is critical in not breaking axles

i still think the end of the spindle may flex just enuff to the bind the splines in the diff with excessive torque demands from a dead stop and heavy loads(but i could be out in left field)

by the same token folks have broken axles backing out of their drive way with no load

wonder if the metalurgy changed in the latter years

or how many have broken axles in 67 68 models
